Okay...I know...the blog title is corny, but then...it did grab your attention and make you read it!
As you may have guessed, I received my orders today. My wife called me at the office and said "Is there anything I could say that showed up at the house today that would make you come home early?" Then she told me my orders had arrived. I didn't even wait to hear her reply; I hung up the phone and went home. I was pretty excited to get them. After CHOBC (I still just can't bring myself to type...much less say...CH-BOLC), I report to Ft. Riley: Go Big Red 1...Go Army...HOOAH!
While typing this blog entry, I just had to run my youngest son back to bed. You see, he climbed back down out of his bunk bed to play with his cars on his floor. He was being unusually quiet; he would have gotten away with quite a bit of playing time if it weren't for the fact that he kept opening his door. Recently, he has actually said that he wants to be in the Army like daddy. My advice to him is this: son, don't go into anything that requires a covert night op.

Chaplain Ken,
Congratulations on receiving your orders. I know it was a big day at our house when the letter finally came from the Department of the Army. Big and Scarry. Hope all is going well. Hooah!
CH Kirk,
Thanks and you said it well: "Big and Scarry." I do get to go tomorrow and get my military ID, though so I am looking forward to that. I hope things are going well for you and your family, too. See you in June! HOOAH!
CH Ken,
How are you able to get your military ID prior to swearing in? Is there something I'm missing? I'm officially intrigued.
It is my understanding that all I need to get my ID is my orders. That is what my recruiter told me and CH Goode at the Chief of Chaplains Office confirmed it as well. So I don't know...I'll let you know after tomorrow if I run into a snafu.
I look forward to hearing about it.
Kirk,
It seems that the orders are adequate to get the military ID, but I was not yet in the DEERS system. They have to get info on my family (SSN's, birth certs., etc.) and get us set up in the system, and then they can issue me an ID. Should take about a week they tell me.
CH Ken,
Hope all is going well. Have you taken your oath of office yet, and if so where? I am trying to get that taken care of before I try and get my id squared away. CH Goode said things have changed and we can take the oath now prior to showing up at CH-BOLC.
CH Kirk,
Things are going pretty well, thanks. Now I am officially intrigued. I would really like to take my oath before we reach CHOBC so my wife could attend. I think I will ask CH Goode about that as well.
